If there's any game that's really crying out for an HD remake though, this would definitely be it. Dragon Quest VIII is nearly a decade old now, but it still looks quite good for a PS2 game, even when played on a high-definition television. Monsters like the Slime in particular really stand out - all of them brimming with life and personality, despite being little more than cannon fodder. Yes, it's true that Akira Toriyama's art can be a bit of an acquired taste - particularly if you're not a big Dragon Ball fan - but there's no denying that it's at least interesting to look at. Dragon Quest VIII was the proto-Ni no Kuni - another JRPG with outstanding cel-shading and unique art. As long as we're talking about on Level-5, it's certainly worth mentioning one of the best-looking games on the PlayStation 2.
